Mainframe Tape Reduction Ideas

CD DESCRIPTION / Explanation
A1) Non-current 'old' GDGs created with a TSOID may be deleted. If last used job is the same as the creating job (and date).
   
A2) All 'old' GDGS may be deleted if they are not in the top 'n' generations if the last used job is the same as the creating job (and date). (Very similar to A1).
   
A3) Delete 'old' 'ORPHAN' tapes (In TMS but not in MVS Catalog). The only way to reference these tapes is with a specific volser.
   
A4) All 'old' 'Duplicate' DSNs may be deleted. (OLDER VERSIONS ONLY) The only way to reference these tapes is with a specific volser.
   
A8) All GDGS may be deleted if they are not in the top 'n' generations.
   
A9) Tape DSNs with <= 1 MB may be stacked onto 1 tape or placed on disk.
   
C1) GDG generations may be reduced to 'n' generations unless identified as an exception.
   
   
  Where 'old' and 'n' generations is defined by your application requirements.
